We will continue with our Vocabulary Unit - Weeks 9. Week 9 - Vocabulary Words -cent -millionaire -centennial -kilobyte -milliliter -kilometer Reading This week we are continuing to read Wonder by R.J. Palacio. We will continue discussing how the character analysis impacts someones values. Science/Social Studies This week we are wrapping up learning about the Early English Settlements and discussing how they have made a lasting impact on us today. We will continue with our Vocabulary Unit - Weeks 8. We previewed our vocabulary for this unit and will read Chapter 6 Sections 3 & 4 on TCI. Last week we read a short story that is called Nothing Ever Happens on 90th street. This helped us focus on sensory details while we are writing. We are going to continue learning about sensory details this week and go on a sensory detail scavenger hunt around our school. We will also have our first Vocabulary Review Unit - Weeks 1- 5. Reading This week we are continuing to read Wonder by R.J. Palacio. We are now transitioning into learning about perspective as the book also changes perspective to another character. Science/Social Studies Today we will have our make up science test. The rest of the week will be followed by transitioning into our Social Studies unit. We will begin learning about how our nation began. Math This week we will continue regrouping the students to focus on skills they need to improve on in the place value unit. On Friday we will take our second Place Value assessment. Writing
This week we are transitioning into reading a short story that is called Nothing Ever Happens on 90th street. This will help us focus on sensory details while we are writing. We will eventually edit our paragraphs that we wrote last week to add more sensory details. We will also continue our Vocabulary Unit to Week 5. Week 5 Vocabulary Words: -triple -trigonometry -triathlon -triad -tricolor -trilogy Reading This week we are continuing to read Wonder by R.J. Palacio. We will finish up learning about context clues and how to apply this skill to words that we do not know, specifically to words in Wonder. Science We began taking our unit assessment this week. We will continue with our performance based assessment throughout this week. Math This week we will take our place value assessment on Tuesday. We will regroup the students for the remaining part of the week to focus on skills they need to improve on in the place value unit. Writing

We will be learning about context clues and how to apply this skill to words that we do not know, specifically to words in Wonder. Science Last week we started to learn about the basics of Matter and conducted three experiments that showed different types of matter. We will continue learning about matter this week, specifically, physical vs. chemical changes. Math This week we will continue our Place Value unit, reviewing one digit by two digit division and learning about two by two digit division. MAP Testing This week is our second week of MAP Testing. Last week we started our vocabulary lessons. These lessons will continue every week. We will be learning different root words and their meanings. They will apply their knowledge of these root words to words in everyday life. This week in writing we will also be reviewing the main ingredients of what makes a good paragraph. Week 2 Vocabulary Words: -semiannual -semifinal -demigod -semicircular -hemisphere -semicolon Reading Last week we focused on reviewing Story Elements, specifically on Characters, Setting, Problem, Solution, and Theme. We will continue reviewing Story Elements through Chris Van Allsburg short stories and take our final Theme Assessment on Friday. Science Last week we started to learn about the basics of Matter and conducted two experiments that showed different types of matter. We will continue learning about matter this week, specifically, the three states of matter. Math Last week we started our unit on Place Value. The students had to identify different forms of numbers such as expanded form, standard form, picture form, and word form. We will continue our place value unit, but move on to multiplying numbers. MAP Testing This week is our first week of MAP Testing. We start with our Reading MAP on Wednesday and our Math MAP next Wednesday. |
