This week we will be wrapping up our figurative language unit. We will take our quiz on Tuesday. Week 21 - Vocabulary Words -periphery -circumstance -circumference -circuit -periscope -perimeter Reading We are coming close to finishing reading Bud, Not Buddy. We will continue discussing Bud's external and internal journey. Science/Social Studies We will have our Illinois Science Assessment this week on Wednesday. We will also be finishing up learning about the Branches of Government and will take our test on Friday! Math We are wrapping up our unit on decimals. We will take our decimal test on Tuesday!

This week we will be researching a few different famous heroes. We then be writing a piece about what we have learned about these famous heroes. Week 18 - Vocabulary Words -epidemic -superb -overboard -overthrow -outrage -hyperbole Reading This week we continuing are learning about non-fiction text features. We will be applying this to our informational texts during Genius Hour. Science/Social Studies This week we are wrapping up our ecosystems unit and will be making a food web. Math This week we are starting our new unit on decimals. We will be learning about the place value of decimals this week! Writing

We will be applying this to our informational texts during Genius Hour. Science/Social Studies This week we are finishing our project on the food chain process and how ecosystems interact. Math This week we are learning about graphing fractions on line plots. Writing
This week we are learning about transitions to use in writing. We will be applying these to our new writing pieces. Week 16 - Vocabulary Words -magnificent -magnitude -maximize -macroscopic -magnify -maximum Reading We are continuing to work on our everyday hero project. The students had to interview an everyday hero of their choice, make a presentation based on their interview, and make connections to what we have learned in this unit. Science/Social Studies This week we are focusing on the food chain process and how ecosystems interact. Math We are transitioning to our customary unit of measurement. We will be learning to covert between customary units. Writing
This week we are holding a socratic seminar to discuss how two separate texts about heroes can help answer out Everyday Heroes Essential Questions. Make sure to ask your child about socratic seminars, they are pretty neat! Week 11-15 - Vocabulary Words Review Week! They will have to review all of our words from weeks 11-15. Reading We are continuing to work on our everyday hero project. The students had to interview an everyday hero of their choice, make a presentation based on their interview, and make connections to what we have learned in this unit. Science/Social Studies This week we are focusing on the food chain process and how ecosystems interact. Math We have our new groups for our fractions unit, we will be wrapping up multiplying and dividing fractions by the end of the week. Welcome Back!

They will have to include dialogue throughout the story! Week 14 - Vocabulary Words -hologram -cornucopia -copious -pandemonium -pantomime -panorama Reading This week we are going to finish our novel called Running Out of Time (ROOT). We will also wrapping up our unit on everyday heros! Science/Social Studies This week we are focusing on the process of photosynthesis. The class is making choice projects that correlate to the process of photosynthesis. We will present these projects at the end of the week to the whole fifth grade student body. Math We are moving on in our fractions unit to learn about dividing fractions. We will soon wrap up our unit of fractions. Writing

This week we are focusing on pulling out important quotes from a text in order to produce a quality extended response. We are using an organizer called CEIEIO to help us formulate our thoughts.
